Yerevan Theater of Young Spectators

Description

The Yerevan Theater of Young Spectators, founded on November 29, 1929, is a unique cultural venue that has made a significant contribution to the development of theatrical art for children and youth for decades. The grand opening of the theater took place in the current officer's house with the production of Smirnov's play "Explosion", under the direction of artistic director Tigran Shamirkhanyan, who laid the foundation for the strong traditions of the new theater.

In 1958, the theater took part in a festival in Moscow, where it was awarded. In the following years, Yerevan Theater of Young Spectators regularly participated in various festivals, achieving significant success. In 1980, on the occasion of the theater's 50th anniversary, it was awarded a government prize, which testifies to the high level of its productions and its importance in the country's cultural life.

Over the years, the theater was headed by outstanding artists, such as People's Artist of the Republic of Armenia Yervand Kazanchyan (1980-1984, 1986-1988) and his son, Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia Hakob Kazanchyan (1997). In 2017, David Harutyunyan became the artistic director of the theater, and in 2018 he was replaced by Emin Torosyan.
