Description
The Iran National Ice Hockey Team is a young and ambitious team that is rapidly gaining recognition on the world stage. Founded in June 2016, the team is actively developing under the auspices of the Islamic Republic of Iran Skating Federation. In 2019, Iran became an associate member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), and in 2022, it debuted at the IIHF World Championship, taking 56th place in the world ranking.
The history of the team began with a campaign to recruit players of Iranian origin living abroad. This made it possible to assemble a talented team that quickly adapted to international standards. National training camps held in Italy, Kazakhstan and the UAE played an important role in the development of the team, where the players gained valuable skills from international coaches.
The first match of the Iranian national team against a non-Iranian team took place in August 2016, when they defeated the Kazakh team HC Almaty. Although their participation in the 2017 Asian Winter Games was marred by disqualification, the Iranian team continues to demonstrate its potential in exhibition matches.
